Division One League: GFA secures $250,000 sponsorship deal with Access Bank

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has secured a one-year sponsorship deal worth $250,000 from Access Bank Ghana as title sponsor of the Division One League (DOL).

The partnership, worth $250,000, would be invested in lower-tier competition to support the various clubs and ensure league growth.

Under the agreement, the Bank would also provide club overdrafts and loan facilities and vehicle finance loans to equip clubs in managing team affairs.

Access Bank would be the official bank of the GFA, and all DOL clubs, players and officials would need to open an account with the bank.

Speaking at the signing on Tuesday at the GFA headquarters, Mr. Olumide Olatunji, Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana, shared his joy in partnering with the GFA with the aim of developing and making the league more attractive .

According to him, most of the top footballers in the world are the beneficiaries of the various Division One teams, hence the need to develop the league to produce more talent for Ghana.

Mr Olatunji said that “it was the right time to promote football in Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and champion the GFA’s ‘Bring Back the Love’ initiative.”

He assured the various DOL clubs that Access Bank would do its best to make the partnership a success.

“I finally call on Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars and support them in the next World Cup,” he added.

Mr. Kurt Okraku, Chairman of the GFA, said: “When I took office, I said that I was not going to do business with a bank that is not ready to invest in football, and today we have Access Bank.

“Our new partner has a vision to become the most respected African bank in the world, as such it seeks to empower key sectors of our economy, for example sport and football.”

Mr Okraku thanked Access Bank for trusting and believing in the GFA to invest in the Division One League as it seeks to develop football in Ghana.

Mr. Kenneth Thompson, the Vice Chairman of the DOL Board thanked the GFA and Access Bank for coming together to develop the league.

Division One League 2022 is scheduled to start on September 30.
